Best Foods to Pack for Your Next Hike

When you’re out backpacking for the day, you need to be sure to bring food that will energize, nourish and strengthen you, but also tastes good. Here are some suggestions for your next hike:


Trail Mix

Trail mix is an obvious choice for hiking snacks because it is lightweight and easily portable. Usually it is a mix of nuts, seeds and dried fruit tossed together without cooking or lightly roasting. It provides a good source of protein to energize you and carbohydrates to keep you going. Stop at the store to pick some up for your next hike, or make your own!


Granola Bars

Similar to trail mix, granola bars can help energize you during your hike. The key is to choose granola bars that aren’t packed with too much sugar – bars like this won’t add any nutritional value to your diet. Choose bars with less than eight grams of sugar and plenty of fiber. Better yet, look at the ingredient list for ingredients you recognize.
